EMV Chip Card

EMV® — developed and managed by American Express, Discover, JCB, Mastercard, UnionPay, and Visa — is a global standard for credit cards that uses computer chips to authenticate (and secure) chip-card transactions. Credit and debit cards with EMV technology resemble the traditional magnetic stripe cards that are in use today, but contain a tiny computer chip that is extremely difficult to counterfeit. When a chip card is inserted into the chip reader, the data transmitted is encrypted, which means that if it is intercepted by criminals it would likely be rendered useless.
